President's Message

Fall is here...FINALLY!!!  The temperatures and rain outside have made crawling out of my warm bed challenging.  I love this time of year and all holiday celebrations it brings.  Some of you are preparing for the boarding season of the year while in “ER Land” we are gearing up for the busiest season of our year.  Bring on the turkey bones, pancreatitis and new puppy parvo!  On a more serious note, it is a time for reflection and thanksgiving for all that 2019 blessed each of us with.  We all have many things to be thankful for our health, our families (both at home and work) and our ability to pursue our passion of veterinary medicine.  We are very blessed and with those blessings comes a great responsibility.  To quote one of our former Presidents “Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds.”– Theodore Roosevelt  Many of you attended the Fall Fest hosted by Dr. Thayer and family.  They, as well as the coordinator Dr. Gina Viator, exemplify this principle.  The work that goes into coordinating this effort as well as the Thayers opening their home to our veterinary community is awe inspiring and greatly appreciated.  Many of you were in attendance and raised money to pay forward to the next generation of veterinary professionals as well as advancing medicine through research endowments.  Thank you to everyone who joined us and a special thank you to everyone behind the scenes that made for a picture perfect day!

Respiratory distress of an animal can result in a similar situation of a veterinary team, if unprepared.  Dr. Tonozzi’s presentation on triaging, diagnosing and treating various presentations of respiratory distress and how to best manage them hopefully aided you in the best outcomes for your patients.  We all see many dyspnea patients and it is rarely easy to determine the underlying cause. Her handout with quick differentials based on presenting complaints is a great tool to create a differential list and initiating therapy.

Our November meeting bring Dr. Samantha Muro from Veterinary Specialist of North Texas.  Dr. Muro will be bringing a lecture on internal medicine.  Dr. Muro’s has been with VSNT for 2 years and a great asset to our veterinary community.  Being right down the hall, she has been a great resource for our emergency department.  I hope you have an opportunity to meet her and gain internal medicine insight at the same time.

Looking forward to seeing everyone November 21 for our final meeting of the year!

Happy Thanksgiving!
